Deluge of wet weather and more forecasted rain puts player safety in jeopardy

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Fuego (USL Premier Development League) has announced its exhibition match against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, February 18 has been cancelled due to unusually wet field conditions at Chukchansi Park, with player safety a top priority for each club.

Tickets purchased for the match may be refunded, or exchanged for the Fuego’s next scheduled home exhibition, against Reno 1868 FC of the United Soccer League.  That match is on Saturday, March 4, a 7 p.m. kickoff at Chukchansi Park.  For more information, fans should visit the ticket office or call 559-320-TIXS.

“It pains us to cancel this match, as I know our fans were very much looking forward to it,” said Fresno Fuego General Manager Jeremy Schultz.  “However, with all the rain we’ve received, and more wet weather on the way this week, we have to make the safety of the players our top priority.  The field is not suitable for play at the moment.  Both clubs have big goals set for their regular seasons, and we don’t want to subject anyone to a serious injury.”

The Fuego enter 2017 coming off a Central Pacific Division title and a 10-3-1 record.   2017 Fuego season tickets are on sale now at the Chukchansi Park box office and online at FresnoFuego.com.  View the regular season schedule at FresnoFuego.com.
