Fresno Fuego fall to Reno 1868 FC of United Soccer League on Saturday

Club in its inaugural season is latest professional visitor in exhibition action at Chukchansi Park

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Fuego (USL Premier Development League) were back on the pitch at Chukchansi Park Saturday, hosting Reno 1868 FC in preseason exhibition action.  An early onslaught carried Reno to a 4-0 victory; 1868 FC is a member of the United Soccer League, a level below Major League Soccer.  They are affiliated with the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS.

Reno forward Dane Kelly scored twice in the match’s opening moments, keeping it on the ground for a pair of tallies in the third and 14th minute for a 2-0 1868 FC lead.  The second goal was assisted by midfielder Antoine Hoppernot. In the 33rd minute, Reno forward Mackenzie Pridham rolled another past Fresno keeper Alex Clewis, for a 3-0 advantage at half.

Kelly would register the hat trick in close in the 53rd minute, sliding another one into the back of the net for the final tally of the evening.  

The Fuego enter 2017 coming off a Central Pacific Division title and a 10-3-1 record.  2017 Fuego season tickets and single-game tickets are now on sale, by visiting or the ticket office at Chukchansi Park.  

Fresno’s home-opening and season-opening match is Saturday, May 6 against the Burlingame Dragons.  The Fuego will play three home matches in a week in June; Thursday, June 8, Saturday, June 10 and Thursday, June 15.  The standard kick off time is 7:30 p.m., and most home matches will be preceded by Fresno Freeze women’s soccer.
